The Kinston/Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of programs and special activities for the whole community. From exercise and social programs for those with special needs, to activites especially designed for seniors, to summer camps and clubs for everybody, there's a wealth of opportunities to be active. Find the program or activity that's right for you and get involved today.

Special Populations Programs

Programs for the Blind/Visually Impaired

Bowling
The team meets on Mondays from 2:30-4:30 at Galaxy of Sports and may be joined at any time.

Exercise
An on-going activity that may be joined at any time. The group meets on Tuesdays from 1:30-4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 10:30-1:00 p.m. at Vernon Park Mall.

Social Club
Meets at various locations for movies, plays, dinner theaters and day trips. Can be joined at any time.

Special Olympics

Local games held in the spring and fall. The games are open to children with special needs ages 8 and up. Sports offered are athletics, basketball and roller skating. Caswell Center offers alpine skiing, aquatics, golf and volleyball. Regional and state games held year round.

The RADD Summer Camp

A camp for mentally/physically challenged children held at Neuseway Nature Center during the month of July. Contact RADD at (252) 522-2814 for more information, or visit www.raddinc.org.

Senior Citizen Programs

The following programs are offered to seniors age 55 and above.

Water Aerobics
Water Aerobics is held at the Galaxy Sport Club’s indoor pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. A fee is charged.

Bowling
Bowling is held at the Galaxy of Sport’s Bowling Lanes Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. A fee is charged

Walking Class
A low-impact walking class is held at Fairfield Center Mondays at 2:00 p.m.

Floor Exercise
Low-impact floor exercises are held at Fairfield Center Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m.

Fairfield Senior Citizens Club
This is an interactive club which meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Fairfield Center. This club holds meetings, plans outings, cooks lunches, etc.

Kinston Senior Dance Club
Adults over 50 meet at the Galaxy of Sports Skating Center every Tuesday from 7:00 P.M. - 10:00 P.M. with live entertainment.

Neuse River Senior Games
Games are held annually in early May in New Bern. Participation in these games includes Lenoir, Craven, Greene, Jones, Duplin and Pamlico Counties. There is a small entry fee and registration is required.

Adaptive Aquatics Program
A therapeutic program designed for individuals with arthritis, fibromyalgia, joint problems, etc. Classes are held Monday - Thursday at the Caswell pool. The fee is $30 per six-week session of classes and registration is required.

Battle Center's Friendship Club
This club is for persons age 55 and above. It offers travel, workshops, lunches and much more. It meets the 3rd Monday of each month at Georgia K. Battle Center.

Mock Gym Senior Program
Lenoir County residents age 55 and above are entitled to a free membership. The Mock Athletic Skills Facility includes a walking track, treadmills and other cardio and resistance equipment. For more information, contact at 939-3232.

Something for Everybody...

Day Camps & Specialty Camps

Explorer Camp
Held at the Neuseway Planetarium for youth ages 5-12. Features activities related to science. An overnight stay is included in the planetarium.

Fun in the Sun Camp
This camp is held at the Neuseway Nature Center and is for youth ages 5-12. Supervised activities include swimming, crafts, skating, bowling, etc. A fee is charged. Camp is held Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Registration held in June.

Adventure Camp
This is a one-week field trip camp held in the summer. Various locations will be visited each day. Camp is held Monday - Friday from 9:00 - 5:00. Registration held in June. A fee is charged.

Neuseway Nature Camp
This is a nature-based camp which features activities such as camping, reptile studies, canoeing, etc., held in the summer at the Neuseway Nature Center. A fee is charged. Call 939-3367 for more information.

Georgia K. Battle Playground Program
This six week camp is held Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. for youth ages 5-12. Supervised activities include swimming, crafts, bowling, etc. Lunch provided. A fee is charged. Call 939-3352 for more information.

Holloway Day Camp
Held at Holloway Center for youth ages 5-12. Supervised activities include swimming, crafts, skating, bowling, etc. A fee is charged. Call 939-3362 for more information.

Basketball Camps
Usually held at Martin C. Freeman and Fairfield Center during certain weeks in the summer. Call 939-3340 for more information.

Youth & Adult Activities

Big Daddy's Express
Located at the Neuseway Nature Park, this miniature replica of a coal mining train will take children and adults on a fun ride for a small fee. Groups must call in advance. Call 252-939-3367 or 252-939-3302 for more information.

Gymnastics
For children ages 3-13. Tumbling, balance beam and vaulting classes are taught throughout the year. Gymnastics camp taught during the summer at Emma Webb Gymnastics Center. Call 939-3360 for more information.

Quilters and More…
This class is the one for you if designing quilts and throws is your hobby. The class meets Tuesday’s from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Georgia K. Battle Center and can be joined at any time. Call 939-3352 for more information.

Aerobics & Fitness
Various aerobic and fitness classes are taught throughout the City and County.

Pepsi Splash Pad
Located at Fairfield Park is open to the public Monday - Sunday at various hours in the summer. A small fee is charged.

Duplicator's Bridge Club
Meets every Thursday night from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Georgia K. Battle Center. Beginners and experienced players are welcome.

Fairfield Bridge Club
Meets every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m-2:00 p.m. at Fairfield Center.

Summer Swimming Program
Free-play swimming offered at Emma Webb pool and Holloway pool on Mondays-Fridays from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday 1:00-5:00 p.m. during June-August.
